Fred Thomas Settle, 81, of Front Royal died Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Warren Memorial Hospital. He was born July 25, 1936 in Castleton, VA to the late Harry Edward and Rosie Byrd Wharton Settle.
Mr. Settle was a veteran of the US Navy. He was supervisor at J.D. Stokely, former owner of Sperryville Exxon from 1975 to 1981, and was a member of the local 77 Operating Engineers Union. He enjoyed excavation work, moving dirt and being outside.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Atkins Settle; four children, Gregory Allen Settle and his wife, Kathy Settle of Locust Grove, Gary Thomas Settle and his wife, Kelly-Jo Gilkey Settle of Sperryville, Kimberly Settle Vest and her husband, Rodney Allen "Todd" Vest, Jr. of Woodville; and Jacqueline Settle Tederick and her husband, Manuel Tederick of Strasburg; and three siblings, Billy Settle and his wife, Hazel, Anna Mae Settle and her husband, Bob Crowell, and Carroll Snead Settle and his wife, Ann Leake.
Additional survivors include five grandchildren, Gregory Thomas Settle and his wife, Stephanie, Bobby Jo Settle Jarvis and her husband, Jonathan, Mary Ashley Vest, Logan Ashby Vest, and Kade Mitchell Tederick; four great grandchildren, Gavin Thomas Settle, Colbie Lynn Settle, Brooklynn Jane Jarvis, and Hudson Grey Settle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Brown Settle, Lois Freeman, Brueton "Bunny" Settle, Charles Russell Settle, and Lee Taylor Settle; and Edward and Robert Grigsby.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 28, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jon Heddleston officiating.
Interment will follow in Sperryville Cemetery with military honors provided by Culpeper VFW Post 2524.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Settle, Logan Vest, Chucky Jenkins, Bubby Settle, Jonathan Jarvis and Roger Jenkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Utz, Richard Settle, Bobby Settle, Tommy Atkins, Ricky Lillard and Richie Lillard.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department, 13 Headwaters Rd., Chester Gap, VA 22633.

With deep sadness the family of Carroll Snead Settle, 80, of Washington, Virginia, announces his passing in the early morning hours at Page Memorial Hospital on October 13, 2020.
He was the youngest child born June 11, 1940 in Casleton, Virginia to the late Harry Edward and Rosie Byrd Wharton Settle.
Carroll was retired from Washington Gas Company after 30 years of services as a welder. He spent his retirement years tending to his cattle.
Carroll is survived by his loving companion, Mary Ann Leake; a daughter, Linda Carol "Lynn" Settle and her husband Charles Milton "Chuck" Settle of Washington, Virginia; and one sibling, Anna Mae Gore of Orange, Virginia.
Additional survivors include his grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his life, Kyle Davis Settle and his wife Jennifer Maryl "Jenny" Settle of Culpeper, Virginia, and Samantha Nicole Settle of Washington, Virgnia; and one great-granddaughter, Grace Joy Settle of Culpeper, Virginia.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by seven siblings, Harry Brown, Lois Elizabeth, Charles Russell, Brueton "Bunny" Franklin, Lee Taylor, Fred Thomas, and Huroy "Billy" Settle.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to any of the following: Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Flint Hill Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Amissville Fire and Rescue, or the Sperryville Rescue Squad.
The family has decided to hold a private service to commemorate his life.

A funeral service for Harry E. Settle of Castleton was held Wednesday, at Geest Funeral Home Chapel in Culpeper conducted by the Rev. Robert Ellis. Interment
was in Fairview Cemetery. Mr. Settle, 78, a farmer, died March 10, 1975 at Culpeper Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. A native of Rappahannock County, he was the son of the late Brueton Settle and the late Roberta Elizabeth Settle. His wife, Rosie B. Settle, died in 1971. He is survived by six sons, Billy Settle of Reva, Charles R. Settle and Fred T. Settle, both of Castleton, Brueton F. Settle of Front Royal, Lee T. Settle of Falls Church and Carroll S. Settle of Vienna; two daughters, Mrs. Lois E.. Freeman of Fairfax and Mrs. Anna M. Gore of Culpeper; 34 grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren; a brother, Brue Settle of Castleton; a sister, Mrs. Fannie Ficklin of Hillcrest Heights, Md.; and two foster sons, Edward Grigsby of Castleton and Robert Grigsby of Manassas.

Kenneth Allen Settle, 8 years Old, ofCastleton, died Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1964 in University of Virginia Hospital. He was born June 9, 1956 in Arlington. He is survived by his parents Charles Russell Settle and Helen Eastham Settle; one brother, Dennis Michael Settle two sisters, Debra Rae and Donna Lee Settle, all of the home address; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Settle of Castleton and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Eastham, Front Royal. A funeral service was held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. from the Scott Funeral Home in Front Royal with the Rev. Milton Switzer, pastor of Hope Hill Chapel, Castleton, officiating. Interment was in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Front Royal.
