Notes - (HMC) William was 5'-11" with dark hair and eyes and fair complexion. He served in Capt. chas. Shackleford's County Virginia Militia during the War of 1812, enlisting 11 Aug. 1814. He was mustered out at Fredericksburg, Virginia 17 Dec. 1814. His occupation then and throughout his life was a farmer. In 1818 he moved to Morgan County, Ohio For his services in the War of 1812 he received bounty land #22399-80-50 consisting of 80 acres under the bounty Act of 1850, which he legally disposed of, apparently through a sale, probably to land speculators. under the Act of 1855 he applied for additional bounty land and received another 80 acres, with agents acting for him, being #34750-80-55. He received a pension for his services in the War of 1812 and after his death, his second wife, Nancy (Jones) Chappelear received a pension until her death. His pension File being W. O. 31292 WC 15397.
He married first in Culpeper County, Virginia in 1815 nancy Bradford. she was born in Virginia and died apparently as a result of childbirth 25 July 1836 at Union Twp, Morgan County, Ohio William A. & Nancy (Bradford) Chappelear had issue. See Family Sheet.
William A. remarried shortly after Nancy's death, on 11 Sept. 1836 at Somerset, Perry County Nancy Jones; who I believe must have been a sister of George Chappelear's wife, Susan nee Jones. The Geo. Chappelear's were living at Somersset at this time , and William needed someone to look after the children. Nancy (Jones) was born in Virginia in 1793 (Morgan County Cen. 1860 ) & died 27 Mar. 1887 at New Lexington, Ohio She came to Ohio in 1825 with her father, who settled at Somerset. Her will is probated at New Lexington, perry County, Ohio will Book 5, p. 14 leaving her estate to her sister, Lucy Jones of Somerset and her niece, N (Nancy) B. Park of New Lexington, Ohio royal Wade was a witness of the wedding of nancy Jones & William A. Chappelear. wm. A. & Nancy (Jones) chappelear had issue:
