A Frederick Frazier, who lived to be 103 may be our Frederick Frazier's father.
An Elizabeth Hisle is reported to be this Frederick Frazier's wife.
Some researchers believe our Frederick Frazier was born about 1790, possibly
in Scotland. So far that theory has neither been documented, nor proven. It's
more than likely he was born in VA.
Leonard Heisel, grandfather to Mary Polly Heisel, (who was later the wife of
our Frederick Frazier was in attendance at the Thornton Gap Primitive Baptist
Church in 1788. Within the same church Registry & time frame,
Frederick Frazier is listed as a member.
This would be the elder Frederick, above. Since ours wasn't born until about
1790, it certainly couldn't have been him. But this one probably is:
Frederick Frazier is listed on a church Registry, which is dated 1840.
This would be our Frederick's grandson:
Frederick Frazier is also on a list denoting those who were church members up
until a division within the church which occurred in 1890.
Those attending the church came from their homes in the mountains, hills and
hollows of the area near Sperryville, Va. Back then it was called Swindler Hollow,
then Sycamore Hollow. Now it is more commonly known as "Old Hollow."
In the Washington, Va. Courthouse Marriage Records, there are numerous
Frazier marriages along with other related families such as Fry, Fry, Pullen,
Jenkins, Rutherford, Dodson, Atkins etc.. annotated. These are also many
of the families whose land was taken by the government for the Shenandoah
National Park.
The Frazier's were farmers primarily but many served in the local militia.
Some served in the military during the Civil War. Our Frazier's located around
what is now Culpeper, Rappahannock and Page Counties of Va. Their homes
were on, or in the shadow of, the Shenandoah Mts. of Va.
The famlies primarily settled around or at Sperryville, Flint Hill and "Little"
Washington, Va. Some lived close to Luray, Va.
